Recommended reading books for elementary, middle & high school students
Zachariah OHora is an illustrator and author of children’s books. His illustration work has also appeared in publications including the New York Times, the Atlantic and Bloomberg Business Week, as well as on posters and record covers. His books as author-illustrator include Stop Snoring, Bernard!, No Fits, Nilson!, My Cousin Momo, The Not So Quiet Library, Niblet & Ralph and Whalesong: The True Story of the Musician Who Talked to Orcas.
Stop Snoring, Bernard! was published by Holt in April 2011 and was described in review coverage as OHora’s debut. Stop Snoring, Bernard! was the official selection for the 2012 Pennsylvania One Book, Every Young Child programme. Niblet & Ralph, written and illustrated by OHora, was released on 5 June 2018.
OHora has illustrated books by other writers, including Wolfie the Bunny and Read the Book, Lemmings! by Ame Dyckman, Bikes for Sale by Carter Higgins, Who Wet My Pants? by Bob Shea, and the Sonny Says books by Caryl Hart. In 2022, he created an activity for Children’s Book Week bookmarks as part of the “How Do You Book?” campaign.
OHora expanded his work into television with Carl the Collector, a 2D animated series produced by Fuzzytown Productions and Spiffy Pictures and animated by Yowza! Animation. Carl the Collector premiered on PBS Kids in English and Spanish on 14 November 2024.
