Steven Scott biography

Steven Scott is a comics writer and graphic novel author. He has worked in comics since publishing his debut book in 2010, including work as a publicist. His writing has appeared in publications by Archie Comics, Arcana Studios and Heavy Metal magazine.

Scott co-wrote the graphic memoir They Called Us Enemy with George Takei and Justin Eisinger, with art by Harmony Becker. Top Shelf Productions published the paperback edition on July 16, 2019. The book recounts Takei’s childhood incarceration with his family during World War II.

They Called Us Enemy won the 2020 Asian/Pacific American Award for Young Adult Literature, the 2020 Eisner Award for Best Reality-Based Work and a 2020 American Book Award.

Scott has also written children’s comics. His credits include Cat Ninja: The Heart of a Hero and Time Buddies: Past, Present, Hooture, both Epic! Originals titles published by Andrews McMeel Publishing.

For Capstone’s Spark Graphics line, Scott wrote the Sixth-Grade Shape-Shifter books, illustrated by Lavinia Brandizi. The series includes Ruff Day, Gadget Bandit, Game Changer and Double Feature, graphic novels about Sawyer Stone, a twelve-year-old who can shape-shift into anything or anyone.
