Stephanie Seales biography
Stephanie Seales is a children’s author and children’s literature specialist. She is California-born and the daughter of Panamanian immigrants. Her debut picture book is My Daddy Is a Cowboy, illustrated by C. G. Esperanza and published by Abrams Books for Young Readers on 11 June 2024.
My Daddy Is a Cowboy is a 48-page picture book for children aged 4 to 8. The story follows a young girl and her father as they ride horses through city streets before dawn, with the child discovering confidence and pride through their shared ride. The book’s characters cue as Afro-Latinx.
My Daddy Is a Cowboy was named a 2025 Caldecott Honor Book, with C. G. Esperanza as illustrator and Stephanie Seales as writer. The book also received the 2025 Coretta Scott King Illustrator Award for C. G. Esperanza.
