Sharon King-Chai biography

Sharon King-Chai is a designer, illustrator and writer of children’s books. She was born in Australia to Chinese-Malaysian parents. Before making her own books, she created album artwork, book covers, cards and prints.

Her books include Lucy Ladybird, Snail Mail and Starbird. Starbird was published on 5 September 2019 and is an original fable by Sharon King-Chai about freedom and love.

She has collaborated with Julia Donaldson on Animalphabet, Counting Creatures and Colours, Colours Everywhere.

Her Mirror Magic board-book series uses reflective pages for very young readers. Mirror Magic: Hello Bunny! is a Two Hoots board book for ages 2 to 3, with a mirror on each page, simple repetitive text, animal spotting and a QR-code audio download with an extra spotting game.

Starbird won the Kate Greenaway Shadower’s Choice Award. Her books have also won international awards, including the Chen Bochui Award for Best Picture Book.
