Recommended reading books for elementary, middle & high school students
Sharon Creech is an American author known for her contributions to children’s and young adult literature. She grew up in South Euclid, Ohio, and attended Hiram College, where she studied English and writing. After college, Creech taught English and writing in both the United States and Europe.
Creech published her first children’s novel, Absolutely Normal Chaos, in 1990. She gained widespread recognition with Walk Two Moons, which won the 1995 Newbery Medal. Her subsequent novels, including Pleasing the Ghost, The Wanderer, and Chasing Redbird, have received numerous accolades and have been published in several languages.
Many of Creech’s books explore themes of family, friendship, and personal growth. Her novel Love That Dog received a Christopher Award and was recognized by several organizations for its impact on young readers. Ruby Holler earned the Carnegie Medal in the United Kingdom, making Creech the first American recipient of this award.
Sharon Creech’s body of work includes novels such as Bloomability, Hate That Cat, The Unfinished Angel, and Moo. Her books are frequently selected for classroom use and have been translated into more than twenty languages. In 2023, her novel Cousins was published by HarperCollins Children’s Books.
