Rainbow Rowell, born on February 24, 1973, is an American author renowned for her contributions to young adult and adult contemporary novels. Notable works include Eleanor & Park (2012), Fangirl (2013), and Carry On (2015).
Rowell began her career as a columnist and ad copywriter at the Omaha World-Herald from 1995 to 2012.
After leaving her columnist position, Rowell ventured into adult contemporary novels, publishing Attachments in 2011, a romantic comedy set around an IT guy and a woman, earning her recognition as an outstanding debut author.
In 2014, she released Landline, a contemporary adult novel exploring themes of a marriage in turmoil.
In August 2023, Rowell secured publishing rights for four adult novels, with the first, titled Slow Dance, scheduled for release in the summer of 2024.
Rowell gained acclaim for Eleanor & Park (2012) and Fangirl (2013), both recognized by The New York Times as among the best young adult fiction of their respective years.
Her novel Carry On (2015) expanded into a trilogy, exploring characters from Fangirl’s fan fiction, completing the series with Wayward Son (2019) and Any Way the Wind Blows (2021).
Rowell’s foray into graphic novels began in 2019 with her first young adult graphic novel, illustrated by Faith Erin Hicks.
She has also made significant contributions to Marvel Comics, writing the Runaways series (2017-2021) and currently working on She-Hulk since 2022.
Rowell resides in Omaha, Nebraska, with her husband and two sons. She has a sister named Jade and a half-sister, Abby, who owns a popular local coffee chain in Omaha, NE.
