Paul.B Janeczko biography

Paul B. Janeczko (1945–2019) was a poet and teacher who wrote and edited books for young people. His poetry anthologies for children include A Poke in the I, A Kick in the Head, A Foot in the Mouth and The Death of the Hat, all illustrated by Chris Raschka.

Janeczko also edited Firefly July: A Year of Very Short Poems, illustrated by Melissa Sweet, and The Proper Way to Meet a Hedgehog and Other How-To Poems, illustrated by Richard Jones. Firefly July was published on 20 March 2018 and is for readers aged 4 to 8.

His nonfiction for older children includes Top Secret: A Handbook of Codes, Ciphers, and Secret Writing, published on 1 May 2006 for readers aged 9 to 12. The book includes activities about codes and ciphers, historical sidebars, suggestions for further reading, an author’s note, an answer key and an index.

Janeczko wrote several books about secrecy, deception and war for readers aged 10 to 14. The Dark Game: True Spy Stories from Invisible Ink to CIA Moles was published on 11 September 2012 and was shortlisted for the YALSA Award for Excellence in Nonfiction; Double Cross: Deception Techniques in War was published on 23 May 2017; Secret Soldiers: How the U.S. Twenty-Third Special Troops Fooled the Nazis examined the Second World War unit known as the Ghost Army.
