P.Craig Russell biography

P. Craig Russell is the professional name of Philip Craig Russell, a comics and graphic-novel creator whose work has been published since 1972. His career has included work that won Kirby, Harvey and Eisner Awards, and Cartoon Crossroads Columbus presented him with the Master Cartoonist Award in 2019.

Russell works in comics and graphic novels, including adaptations of literary and fantasy texts. His graphic-novel work includes Coraline, adapted from Neil Gaiman’s original story and published in 2008.

Russell adapted Neil Gaiman’s The Graveyard Book as a two-volume graphic novel. Volume One contains Chapter One through the Interlude, and Volume Two contains Chapter Six to the end; the second volume was published in September 2014.

His adaptations also include The Ring of the Nibelung, based on Richard Wagner’s Ring cycle. The first collected volume presents The Rhinegold and The Valkyrie and was published in 2001.

Russell’s other adaptation work includes The Fall of the House of Usher, a comics version of Edgar Allan Poe’s horror story, created with Jay Geldhof and published in 1990.
