Natasha Bowen biography

Natasha Bowen is a writer and teacher of Nigerian and Welsh descent. She studied English and creative writing at Bath Spa University, then taught in East London for nearly ten years.

Her debut novel, Skin of the Sea, is a young adult fantasy about Simi, a Mami Wata who collects the souls of people who die at sea and breaks an ancient decree when she saves a living boy. The novel draws on West African mythology and history, and Penguin published the UK paperback edition on 4 November 2021.

Soul of the Deep continues Simi’s story after Skin of the Sea. In this sequel, Simi watches over the Land of the Dead at the bottom of the ocean and returns to the human realm when demons threaten destruction. Penguin published the UK paperback edition of Soul of the Deep on 29 September 2022.
