Mike Gordon biography

Mike Gordon is a children’s book illustrator, cartoonist, and author credited on educational picture books for young readers. His work includes fiction, nonfiction, school stories, social-emotional titles, and classroom-focused books published by children’s imprints in the United States and the United Kingdom.

Gordon illustrates the Robin Hill School series, written by Margaret McNamara and published by Simon Spotlight. The series includes early-reader titles such as The First Day of School, The Pumpkin Patch, Earth Day, Snow Day, Election Day, and Wash Your Hands!. These books are published as Ready-to-Read Level 1 titles for beginning readers.

His credited books also include educational and nonfiction titles listed by Hachette Children’s Group, including Looking After Me: Teeth, What Is Climate Change?, Vote for Me!, and titles in the Feelings and Emotions series, such as Feeling Sad, Feeling Shy, Feeling Jealous, and Feeling Worried.

Gordon has produced more than 500 cards for Hallmark and more than 300 picture books for various publishers. His awards and nominations include Berol Cartoonist of the Year in 1988, runner-up for Trento Fra Realto e Follia in 1990, a Silver Quill Award nomination in Germany in 1991, and a Book and Magazine Illustrator of the Year nomination from the National Cartoonists Society in 1995.

Juneteenth, a Robin Hill School Ready-to-Read Level 1 title by Margaret McNamara and Sibylla Nash and illustrated by Gordon, was published by Simon Spotlight on April 7, 2026.
