Margaret.Peterson Haddix biography

Margaret Peterson Haddix writes middle-grade and young adult fiction. Her work includes the Shadow Children series, The Missing series, the Under Their Skin series and the Children of Exile series. She graduated from Miami University in Ohio, worked for several years as a reporter for The Indianapolis News, and taught at Danville Area Community College in Illinois.

Among the Hidden began the Shadow Children series and was published by Simon & Schuster Books for Young Readers on 1 March 2000. The book centres on Luke, an illegal third child in a future society where the Population Police enforce a two-child limit for families.

Her Shadow Children sequence continued with Among the Impostors, published by Simon & Schuster Books for Young Readers on 1 June 2001, and Among the Barons, published by the same imprint on 1 June 2003. Among the Brave, the fifth Shadow Children book, was published on 1 May 2004 and returns to the futuristic setting and characters introduced in Among the Hidden.

Uprising, published by Simon & Schuster Books for Young Readers on 25 September 2007, is historical fiction about Bella, Yetta and Jane, whose stories connect with the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory fire of 25 March 1911. Haddix used extensive historical research for the novel’s account of the disaster.

Children of Exile opened a trilogy and was published by Simon & Schuster Books for Young Readers on 13 September 2016. The trilogy comprises Children of Exile, Children of Refuge and Children of Jubilee; a boxed set containing all three books was published on 3 December 2019.
