Recommended reading books for elementary, middle & high school students
Kody Keplinger is an author of books for young people and teens. She wrote her first novel, The DUFF (Designated Ugly Fat Friend), during her senior year of high school. The DUFF was a young adult debut published by Little, Brown/Poppy in September 2010, with the ISBN 978-0-316-08423-9. The DUFF was a YALSA Top Ten Quick Pick for Reluctant Readers.
Her young adult novels include Shut Out and A Midsummer’s Nightmare. Her middle grade work includes The Swift Boys & Me. She is the co-founder of Disability in Kidlit, a project devoted to representation of disability in children’s literature. She teaches writing workshops and writes books for children and teenagers.
Keplinger has also written graphic fiction. Poison Ivy: Thorns was written by Kody Keplinger, illustrated by Sara Kipin, published by DC Comics on 1 June 2021, and aimed at readers aged 13 and up.
