Katrina Moore is an American author and former elementary educator, recognized for her contributions to children’s literature through picture books and chapter books. She holds a Master of Arts in Teaching and taught for thirteen years in Maryland, Massachusetts, New York, and New Jersey. Moore’s mission is to create books that children will embrace and cherish.
Her debut picture book, One Hug, illustrated by Julia Woolf, was published by HarperCollins in December 2019. She continued with Grandpa Grumps (Little Bee Books, 2020), which became a finalist for the 2023 Georgia Picture Book Award and was nominated for the 2025 Illinois Monarch Award. Its companion, Grumpy New Year, followed in 2022.
Moore’s other picture books include Sometimes Love (Penguin/Dial, 2022), named one of Bank Street College of Education’s Best Children’s Books of the Year; Hope Is a Hop (Penguin/Dial, 2023); Chang’e on the Moon (HarperCollins, 2024); and The Star in You (Macmillan/Roaring Brook, 2024).
She is also the author of the Teeny Houdini chapter book series, illustrated by Zoe Si, featuring the magic-loving Bessie Lee. The first book, The Disappearing Act, was nominated for the 2025 Washington State Otter Award.
Moore’s forthcoming projects include the board book series Big Job for Little Babies, illustrated by Benson Shum, with Who’s Digging? scheduled for August 2025 and Who’s Building? for spring 2026. Additionally, Schooltime Grumps, a new installment in the Grumps series, is set to publish in summer 2026.
Her books are published by notable houses including HarperCollins, Penguin Random House, and Macmillan.
