Juno Dawson biography

Juno Dawson is a novelist, screenwriter, journalist and columnist whose work includes young adult fiction, adult fiction and non-fiction for young readers. Her early non-fiction includes Being a Boy, a book about puberty, sex and relationships, followed by This Book Is Gay in 2014, a guide for young LGBT readers.

Her young adult novels include Clean, Wonderland and Meat Market, which form part of the London Collection. Say Her Name was shortlisted for the YA Book Prize, and Clean was also shortlisted for the YA Book Prize.

Dawson has written non-fiction about gender and sexuality for young readers. What’s the T? uses examples from her own experience to discuss trans and non-binary lives, while What is Gender? explains gender using clear language and scientific definitions.

Her books also include The Gender Games, a work of memoir and manifesto. Her Majesty’s Royal Coven began an adult fantasy series, followed by The Shadow Cabinet and Human Rites.

Dawson won the YA Book Prize in 2020 for Meat Market, a novel about Jana, a south London teenager scouted to work as a model in the fashion industry.
