June Sobel biography

June Sobel is a children’s author who writes picture books. She was born in New York City and grew up in Oceanside, New York. She graduated from Skidmore College and has an MFA in Painting from Stanford University. Her first book was B Is for Bulldozer: A Construction ABC, illustrated by Melissa Iwai, which she wrote after looking for an alphabet book about construction vehicles.

Her books include the Goodnight Train books, illustrated by Laura Huliska-Beith; the Tow Truck Joe series, illustrated by Patrick Corrigan; B Is for Bulldozer: A Construction ABC, illustrated by Melissa Iwai; and Shiver Me Letters: A Pirate ABC, illustrated by Henry Cole. B Is for Bulldozer: A Construction ABC is a 32-page picture book for ages 4 to 7, published by HarperCollins on 1 May 2006.

Sobel’s picture books use early-years topics such as alphabet learning, construction vehicles, pirates, tow trucks and bedtime journeys. The Goodnight Train Gives Thanks, written by June Sobel and illustrated by Laura Huliska-Beith, is a board book about practising gratitude at Thanksgiving and throughout the year.
