Jory John is an American author recognized for his contributions to children’s literature. He has authored numerous picture books and middle-grade novels, many of which have achieved bestseller status. His works often explore themes of self-awareness and social dynamics, presented with humor and relatable characters.
Among his notable collaborations is the “Food Group” series, illustrated by Pete Oswald, which includes titles such as The Bad Seed (2017), The Good Egg (2019), The Cool Bean (2019), The Couch Potato (2020), The Smart Cookie (2021), The Sour Grape (2022), and The Big Cheese (2023). These books have been recognized on bestseller lists and have received critical acclaim for their engaging storytelling and illustrations.
John has also collaborated with Lane Smith on the “Animal Problems” series, which includes Penguin Problems (2016), Giraffe Problems (2018), and Cat Problems (2021). Additionally, he co-authored the “Terrible Two” series with Mac Barnett, and the “Goodnight Already!” series with Benji Davies.
Before focusing on writing, John served as the programs director at 826 Valencia, a nonprofit writing and educational center in San Francisco. During his tenure, he edited the collection Thanks and Have Fun Running the Country: Kids’ Letters to President Obama.
John’s work has been recognized with multiple awards, including two E.B. White Read-Aloud Honors. His books have been translated into more than 30 languages and have received various state and national awards.
