Johanna Wright biography

Johanna Wright is a fine artist, author and illustrator. She has degrees in puppetry and children’s literature. Her work for young readers includes picture books and middle-grade books, and she has authored and illustrated more than ten books.

Wright wrote The Orchestra Pit, a 32-page children’s literature title published by Roaring Brook Press on 19 August 2014 for ages 2 to 6. The book follows a snake that wanders into an orchestra pit and interacts with orchestral instruments. The Orchestra Pit received a Bank Street Best Children’s Book of the Year honour.

Her books include The Secret Circus, Bandits and Bunnies on Ice. Her publishing credits include work with Scholastic, Penguin, Roaring Brook Press and Boyds Mills Press. Her later credits include illustration work for This Poem Is a Nest, Everything’s Changed, Secrets Out!, Keep a Pocket in Your Poem and Friendship Over.

Wright has taught creative workshops using prompts and exercises connected to the creative process. She has presented in classrooms, including the Pacific Northwest College of Art, Oregon College of Art and Craft, and Duke University. The Orchestra Pit was published by Roaring Brook Press on 19 August 2014.
