Hervé Tullet is a French artist, performer, and author renowned for his innovative contributions to children’s literature. Born in Avranches, Normandy, in 1958, he pursued studies in fine arts and decorative arts before embarking on a decade-long career as an art director in advertising. In the early 1990s, Tullet transitioned to illustration, creating works for various publications. His first children’s book, Comment papa a rencontré maman, was published in 1994 by Le Seuil Jeunesse.
Tullet’s distinctive approach to storytelling emphasizes interactivity and reader engagement. His 2010 book, Press Here, exemplifies this style, inviting readers to participate actively in the narrative. The book achieved international acclaim, remaining on The New York Times Best Seller list for over four years and being translated into more than 40 languages. Subsequent titles, including Mix It Up! (2014), Let’s Play! (2016), and Say Zoop! (2017), continue this interactive tradition.
Beyond his publications, Tullet has conducted large-scale workshops and exhibitions worldwide, fostering creativity among participants of all ages. Notable venues hosting his events include the Tate Modern in London, the Museum of Modern Art and the Guggenheim Museum in New York, and the Library of Congress in Washington, D.C. In 2018, he launched “The Ideal Exhibition,” a collaborative project encouraging individuals and institutions to create their own exhibitions inspired by his artistic philosophy.
Throughout his career, Tullet has authored over 80 books, translated into more than 30 languages, and has been recognized with several awards, including the Non-Fiction Prize at the Bologna Children’s Book Fair in 1998 for Faut pas confondre.
