Fritz Seibel was born in Vienna and later worked in New York City, where he ran his own design firm. He was the original illustrator of Amelia Bedelia, the children’s book character created by Peggy Parish.
In addition to Amelia Bedelia, his pictures were used in Cat and Dog, David and the Giant, and Tell Me Some More, all published as I Can Read books.
Amelia Bedelia was created in 1963, and Fritz Seibel’s illustrations helped establish the first books in that long-running early-reader series. The fiftieth-anniversary edition of Amelia Bedelia was published in 2013 by Greenwillow Books, an imprint of HarperCollins Children’s.
