Recommended reading books for elementary, middle & high school students
Derick Wilder is a children’s picture-book author and the founder of Reading Giraffe, a literacy initiative focused on creating lifelong readers by making books come alive.
The Longest Letsgoboy, written by Wilder and illustrated by Cátia Chien, was acquired by Chronicle with world rights in 2018. The picture book is told from the perspective of an ageing dog on his last walk with his girl, and publication was set for spring 2021 at the time of the rights announcement.
The Longest Letsgoboy was published by Chronicle Books on 26 October 2021, with 48 pages and ISBN 978-1-4521-7716-8. The book is a picture book about the bond between a child and an old dog, and it uses the dog’s point of view to explore farewell, memory and continuing love.
Does a Bulldozer Have a Butt?, written by Wilder and illustrated by K-Fai Steele, was published by Chronicle Books on 24 May 2022. The 40-page picture book has ISBN 9781452182124 and an age range of 3 to 5 years.
