Daniel Miyares biography

Daniel Miyares is a children’s author and illustrator who makes picture books and illustrated books for young readers. His author-illustrator books include Float, Bring Me a Rock!, That Neighbor Kid, Night Out and Hope at Sea. He illustrated Surf’s Up, written by Kwame Alexander, and That Is My Dream!, a picture-book version of Langston Hughes’s poem “Dream Variation”.

Miyares has illustrated fiction, poetry-based picture books and picture-book biographies. Little Fox in the Snow, written by Jonathan London and illustrated by Miyares, was published by Candlewick Press on 13 November 2018. The Boy Who Dreamed of Infinity: A Tale of the Genius Ramanujan, written by Amy Alznauer and illustrated by Miyares, was published by Candlewick on 14 April 2020 for readers aged 5 to 9.

His illustration work also includes Nell Plants a Tree, written by Anne Wynter and published by HarperCollins on 31 January 2023. How to Say Goodbye in Cuban is Miyares’s graphic memoir about a twelve-year-old boy named Carlos, who would grow up to become the author’s father, during the Cuban Revolution and his family’s escape to the United States. In January 2026, How to Say Goodbye in Cuban received a GNCRT Outstanding Comics Award Honor for Nonfiction.
