Christopher Pike is the pen name of Kevin Christopher McFadden, an American author known for his prolific contributions to young adult fiction, particularly in the horror, thriller, and science fiction genres. Born on November 12, 1955, in New York City, he was raised in California. Pike briefly attended college before leaving to work various jobs, including house painting and computer programming, prior to embarking on his writing career.
His first published novel, Slumber Party (1985), was a teen thriller released by Scholastic Press. The book’s success led to a series of popular young adult novels, including Weekend (1986), Chain Letter (1986), and Remember Me (1989). Pike’s works often blend suspense with supernatural elements, appealing to a teenage audience.
Among his notable series is The Last Vampire, later rebranded as Thirst, which chronicles the life of a 5,000-year-old vampire named Sita. The series began in 1994 and expanded with additional titles through 2013. Another significant series is Spooksville (1995–1998), a collection of 24 books aimed at younger readers, which was adapted into a television series in 2013.
Pike has also written adult fiction, including novels such as Sati (1990), The Season of Passage (1992), and The Cold One (1995). His works have been adapted for screen; notably, Fall Into Darkness was made into a television movie in 1996, and The Midnight Club was adapted into a Netflix series released in 2022.
Throughout his career, Pike has written over 50 books, with themes often exploring the supernatural, metaphysical, and existential.
