Christopher Myers biography

Christopher Myers is an author, illustrator, fine artist and publisher for children and young people. He graduated from Brown University and took part in the Whitney Museum of American Art Independent Studio Program.

Myers illustrated Harlem: A Poem, written by Walter Dean Myers; the book received a Caldecott Honor and a Coretta Scott King Honor. His author-illustrator works include Black Cat and H.O.R.S.E.: A Game of Basketball and Imagination, both Coretta Scott King Illustrator Honor Books. His other books include We Are America: A Tribute from the Heart, A Time to Love: Stories from the Old Testament, Looking Like Me, Wings and Fly!.

Myers has illustrated books including Love: Selected Poems by E. E. Cummings, Jazz, Blues Journey and Jabberwocky. Jazz received a Coretta Scott King Honor, and Blues Journey received a Boston Globe-Horn Book Honor. His art has been exhibited at MoMA PS1, the Studio Museum in Harlem and the Goethe Institute in Ghana.

In July 2016, Random House Children’s Books announced that Myers would launch Make Me a World, an imprint for young readers. The imprint was planned to begin with Child of the Universe by Ray Jayawardhana, Mama Mable’s All-Gal Big Band Jazz Extravaganza! by Annie Sieg and Walk Toward the Rising Sun by Ger Duany. By 2019, Myers was serving as Creative Director for Make Me a World, whose first titles launched in autumn 2019.

On September 17, 2020, Myers was named one of the winners of the 3rd Annual CBC Diversity Outstanding Achievement Awards for his work as an author, illustrator and head of Make Me a World.
