Cassandra Clare biography

Cassandra Clare writes fantasy fiction for young adult readers. Her Shadowhunter Chronicles include The Mortal Instruments, a series that begins with City of Bones. City of Bones was published by Margaret K. McElderry Books on 27 March 2007 and is identified for grades 9 and up and ages 14 to 99.

The Mortal Instruments continued with City of Ashes, published by Margaret K. McElderry Books on 25 March 2008, and City of Glass, published by Margaret K. McElderry Books on 24 March 2009. City of Ashes is identified for grades 9 and up and has ILA Young Adults’ Choices and YALSA Teens Top Ten honours.

Clare also wrote The Infernal Devices, including Clockwork Princess, the third book in that series, published by Margaret K. McElderry Books on 19 March 2013. She is also the co-author, with Holly Black, of the Magisterium fantasy series.

Her later Shadowhunter books include Lady Midnight, the first book in The Dark Artifices, published by Margaret K. McElderry Books on 8 March 2016. A further Shadowhunter novel, The Last King of Faerie, is scheduled for publication by Knopf Books for Young Readers on 3 November 2026.
