Britta Teckentrup biography

Britta Teckentrup is a German author, illustrator, and fine artist renowned for her contributions to children’s literature. She has created over 100 picture books, which have been translated into more than 20 languages and published worldwide. Her work is distinguished by its distinctive collage style, often incorporating cut-outs and layered textures.

Born in Hamburg in 1969 and raised in Wuppertal, Teckentrup moved to London in 1988 to study illustration and fine art at Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design and the Royal College of Art. Her career in children’s publishing began when a publisher approached her at her degree show, leading to her first illustration commission.

Teckentrup’s notable works include The Memory Tree, Under the Same Sky, and Tree: A Peek-Through Picture Book. Her books often explore themes of nature, empathy, and interconnectedness, employing innovative visual storytelling techniques. She has received several accolades, including special mentions at the Bologna Children’s Book Fair and recognition from the Kate Greenaway Medal committee.

In addition to her children’s books, Teckentrup maintains a practice in fine art, with her paintings exhibited in galleries and art fairs internationally.
