April Chu is a children’s book illustrator. She studied architecture, and her training in detail and perspective is part of her illustration practice. Her work has been featured in the Society of Illustrators’ Original Art show.
Chu illustrated Summoning the Phoenix: Poems and Prose About Chinese Musical Instruments, written by Emily Jiang and released on 1 April 2014. The book introduces traditional Chinese musical instruments through poems, prose and illustrations of young musicians preparing for a concert.
Chu illustrated In a Village by the Sea, written by Muon Van and published on 12 May 2015. The picture book is about home and family, moving from a coastal village setting to the inside of a home and back out again.
Chu illustrated Ada Byron Lovelace and the Thinking Machine, written by Laurie Wallmark and published on 13 October 2015. The picture-book biography presents Ada Lovelace’s interest in mathematics, her work with Charles Babbage and her writing of the world’s first computer program.
Chu illustrated Kate Warne, Pinkerton Detective, written by Marissa Moss and published on 1 April 2017. She later illustrated Moss’s Boardwalk Babies, a 40-page informational picture book published on 2 March 2021 about Dr Martin Couney, premature babies and the early use of incubators at Coney Island.
