Recommended reading books for elementary, middle & high school students
Ann Hood writes novels, memoirs, short stories, essays, anthologies and books for children. Her novels include The Book That Matters Most, The Obituary Writer, Somewhere Off the Coast of Maine, The Red Thread and The Knitting Circle. Her memoir Comfort: A Journey Through Grief was named a New York Times Editor’s Choice and was chosen by Entertainment Weekly as one of the top ten nonfiction books of 2008.
Hood has won two Pushcart Prizes, a Best American Spiritual Writing Award, two Best American Food Writing Awards and a Best American Travel Writing Award. Her short stories and essays have been published in Ploughshares, Tin House, Traveler, Bon Appetit, O, More, The Wall Street Journal, The Washington Post and The Paris Review.
Hood edited the anthologies Knitting Yarns: Writers Writing About Knitting, Knitting Pearls: More Writers Writing About Knitting and Providence Noir. Her books for younger readers include the middle-grade novels She Loves You (Yeah, Yeah, Yeah) and How I Saved My Father (And Ruined Everything Else), and the ten-book Treasure Chest series. The Treasure Chest series combines history, mystery and time travel, and each book includes a biography of the historical figure featured in the story.
She Loves You (Yeah, Yeah, Yeah) is a middle-grade novel about twelve-year-old Trudy Mixer during Beatlemania in 1966. Penguin Workshop published the paperback edition on 4 June 2019, with an age range of 10 and up and a Lexile level of 780L.
