Recommended reading books for elementary, middle & high school students
Zanna Goldhawk is a children’s illustrator and author known for richly detailed, nature-inspired artwork across picture books, middle grade, and gift publishing. She co-founded the illustration brand Papio Press and has created artwork for major houses, with credits that include titles for Hachette, Penguin Random House, Macmillan, and Scholastic.
Goldhawk is a contributing artist to The Magical Unicorn Society series, which features lavishly illustrated compendiums and activity books for young readers. Her work appears across multiple volumes in the program published internationally, including handbooks and companion titles that introduce mythology and folklore to elementary and middle grade audiences.
Her recent picture book illustration includes Winter Tales: Stories and Folktales from Around the World by Dawn Casey (Running Press Kids, 2023). She also illustrated Gill Lewis’s Song of the River, a short illustrated novel for older children. Earlier in her career, Goldhawk co-authored the tutorial art book The Creature Garden: An Illustrator’s Guide to Beautiful Beasts & Fictional Fauna (Rock Point, 2018), which presents step-by-step methods for drawing real and imagined animals.
Across these projects, Goldhawk’s portfolio spans story collections, illustrated fiction, and design-led gift books for children and families. Her client list and series work reflect a focus on accessible, visually rich storytelling for classroom and library readers.
