William Ritter is an American author known for writing young adult and middle grade fiction. He is the creator of the Jackaby series, which blends elements of fantasy, mystery, and historical fiction. The first book in the series, Jackaby, was published by Algonquin Young Readers in 2014. The series follows the adventures of Abigail Rook and her employer, R. F. Jackaby, a detective with the ability to see supernatural beings, as they solve unusual cases in 19th-century New England.

Ritter has also written the Oddmire series, a middle grade fantasy adventure. The first book, The Oddmire, Book 1: Changeling, was published by Algonquin Young Readers in 2019. The series centers on two brothers, one human and one a changeling, as they navigate magical challenges in the town of Endsborough and the surrounding Wild Wood.

Ritter’s works have been noted for their imaginative world-building and incorporation of folklore and myth.
