Vincent Tirado biography

Vincent Tirado is a nonbinary Dominican author from the Bronx, recognized for their contributions to young adult horror fiction. They earned a Bachelor’s degree in Biology and a Master’s degree in Bioethics, and have published short stories in literary magazines such as Desert Rose Lit Mag and InQluded.

Tirado’s debut novel, Burn Down, Rise Up, was published in 2022 by Sourcebooks Fire. The novel received the Pura Belpré Award for Young Adult Author and was a finalist for both the Bram Stoker Award for Best Young Adult Novel and the Lambda Literary Award for Young Adult Literature.

In 2023, Tirado released their second novel, We Don’t Swim Here, a supernatural thriller set in a town haunted by its past. The book was published by Sourcebooks Fire and received positive reviews for its suspenseful narrative and exploration of historical trauma.

They also contributed a short story to the 2024 anthology The Black Girl Survives in This One, a collection of horror stories centering Black girls as protagonists and survivors. Tirado’s latest novel, We Came to Welcome You, was published in 2024 by William Morrow.

Burn Down, Rise Up was recognized with the 2023 Pura Belpré Award for Young Adult Author.
