Recommended reading books for elementary, middle & high school students
Victoria Jamieson is an American author and illustrator known for her work in children’s graphic novels. She studied at the Rhode Island School of Design, where she earned a degree in illustration. Jamieson has worked as a children’s book illustrator and has also contributed to the design of children’s products.
Her graphic novel Roller Girl was published by Dial Books for Young Readers in 2015. The book tells the story of a young girl navigating friendships and challenges through her involvement in roller derby. Roller Girl was named a Newbery Honor Book in 2016.
Jamieson has also written and illustrated other graphic novels, including All’s Faire in Middle School (2017) and When Stars Are Scattered (2020), the latter co-authored with Omar Mohamed. When Stars Are Scattered is based on Mohamed’s experiences growing up in a refugee camp in Kenya.
Victoria Jamieson’s Roller Girl received a Newbery Honor in 2016.
