Tomi Adeyemi biography

Tomi Adeyemi is a Nigerian-American author and creative writing coach known for her work in young adult fantasy literature. She graduated from Harvard University with an honors degree in English literature and studied West African mythology and culture in Salvador, Brazil. Adeyemi’s debut novel, Children of Blood and Bone, was published by Henry Holt Books for Young Readers in 2018. The novel draws inspiration from West African mythology and follows the story of Zélie Adebola as she fights to restore magic to her people.

Adeyemi’s work has received critical recognition, including the 2018 Andre Norton Award for Young Adult Science Fiction and Fantasy for Children of Blood and Bone. The novel was also named to the American Library Association’s 2019 Best Fiction for Young Adults list. The sequel, Children of Virtue and Vengeance, was published in 2019 by Henry Holt Books for Young Readers. Adeyemi has been featured in various media outlets for her contributions to literature and her advocacy for diverse voices in publishing.

In 2018, Children of Blood and Bone won the Andre Norton Award for Young Adult Science Fiction and Fantasy.
