Scott B. Henderson biography

Scott B. Henderson is a comics artist and illustrator whose work focuses on graphic literature for children and young adults. He is best known for long-running collaborations with Indigenous authors published by HighWater Press, an imprint of Portage & Main Press.

Henderson illustrated the four-volume cycle 7 Generations by David A. Robertson (2010–2011), later collected as 7 Generations: A Plains Cree Saga (2012). The series follows multiple generations of a family across key moments in Plains Cree history and has been used widely in classrooms for discussions of identity, resilience, and intergenerational story.

He is also the artist for Katherena Vermette’s YA time-slip series A Girl Called Echo, with volumes including Pemmican Wars (2017), Red River Resistance (2019), Northwest Resistance (2020), and Road Allowance Era (2021). The books pair Henderson’s line work with colorist Donovan Yaciuk to depict Métis history through a contemporary teen’s perspective.

Henderson’s broader bibliography with HighWater Press includes additional projects with Robertson set in connected worlds for middle grade and teen readers.
