Sami Ellis biography

Sami Ellis is a queer horror writer whose work explores the intersection of Black cultural fears and the supernatural. Her writing delves into themes such as hexes, ancestral hymns, and spiritual practices like Haint Blue. Ellis is the co-founder of the Write Team Mentorship Program, which supports emerging writers, and she provides resources for aspiring authors, including the Agent Adjacent Cheat Sheet.

Ellis contributed to the young adult horror anthology All These Sunken Souls (2023), which features stories by Black authors that examine horror through various lenses. Her debut novel, Dead Girls Walking (2024), follows Temple Baker, the daughter of a convicted serial killer, as she investigates her mother’s murder at a summer camp situated on her father’s former hunting grounds. The novel combines elements of slasher horror with explorations of identity and legacy.

In addition to her writing, Ellis engages with the literary community through interviews and events, discussing topics such as the portrayal of serial killers in fiction and the complexities of family dynamics in horror narratives.
