Roland Smith biography

Roland Smith is an American author known for his books for children and young adults, particularly in the genres of adventure, mystery, and historical fiction. Before becoming a full-time writer, Smith worked as a zookeeper for over twenty years, an experience that has influenced much of his writing, especially his nonfiction works about animals and conservation.

Smith’s first book, Sea Otter Rescue, was published in 1991 and is based on his experiences with wildlife rescue. He has since written numerous novels and nonfiction titles, including the popular Peak series, which began with Peak in 2007. His works often feature young protagonists facing challenges in natural or wilderness settings, and many of his stories incorporate themes of survival, environmental stewardship, and animal behavior.

In addition to the Peak series, Smith is the author of the Cryptid Hunters series and the I, Q series. His nonfiction books include titles such as Journey of the Red Wolf and In the Forest with the Elephants. Smith’s books have been recognized by various organizations, and he has received several awards for his contributions to children’s literature.

In 2007, Roland Smith’s novel Peak was named an ALA Best Book for Young Adults.
