Robert Sabuda is an American artist, author, and paper engineer known for his innovative work in children’s pop-up books. He studied at the Pratt Institute in New York, where he focused on illustration. Sabuda began his career illustrating children’s books before moving into the field of paper engineering, where he gained recognition for his intricate and creative pop-up designs.
Sabuda’s first pop-up book, The Christmas Alphabet, was published in 1994. He has since created numerous pop-up adaptations of classic tales, including The Wonderful Wizard of Oz and Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland. His books are noted for their complex paper constructions and artistic detail, which have contributed to the popularity of pop-up books in contemporary children’s literature.
In addition to his work as an author and illustrator, Sabuda has collaborated with other writers and artists on various projects. He has also contributed to educational initiatives, sharing his expertise in paper engineering through workshops and public appearances.
