Remy Lai is an author and illustrator known for her graphic novels and middle grade books. Born in Indonesia and raised in Singapore, Lai later moved to Australia. Her work often explores themes of family, identity, and belonging, drawing on her multicultural background.
Lai’s debut graphic novel, Pie in the Sky, was published by Henry Holt and Co. in 2019. The book tells the story of two brothers who immigrate to a new country and navigate challenges such as language barriers and grief. Pie in the Sky received recognition as a 2019 New York Times Notable Children’s Book and was included in several best-of-the-year lists.
Following her debut, Lai published Fly on the Wall in 2020, also with Henry Holt and Co. This graphic novel centers on a boy who embarks on a secret journey to visit his estranged father. Lai continued to write and illustrate books for young readers, including Pawcasso (2021), which features a girl who befriends a dog with a talent for shopping, and Surviving the Wild, a graphic novel series about animals facing environmental challenges.
Lai’s books have been recognized for their accessible storytelling and illustrations, making them popular choices for readers transitioning to longer chapter books. Her work has been published by Henry Holt and Co. and Roaring Brook Press, both imprints of Macmillan Publishers.
In 2023, Remy Lai published Ghost Book, a graphic novel with supernatural elements, through Henry Holt and Co.
