Regis Bethencourt biography

Regis Bethencourt is a children’s author and photographer known for collaborative books created with Kahran Bethencourt as CreativeSoul Photography. Their work for young readers combines portrait photography with narrative concepts aimed at elementary and middle-grade audiences.

Bethencourt co-authored GLORY: Magical Visions of Black Beauty (St. Martin’s Publishing Group, October 20, 2020), a photography collection featuring more than 100 portraits and accompanying texts. He and Kahran followed with CROWNED: Magical Folk and Fairy Tales from the Diaspora (St. Martin’s Press, May 23, 2023), a compendium of original and retold tales presented with staged photographic storytelling.

In picture books, Bethencourt provided imagery with Kahran for The Me I Choose To Be by Natasha Anastasia Tarpley (Little, Brown Books for Young Readers, October 19, 2021), which pairs lyrical text with photographic portraits for ages 4–8.

His recent children’s title with Kahran, Greatness (Little, Brown Books for Young Readers), introduces young readers to pivotal figures and moments in Black history through a framing story and photographic tableaux.
