P. Craig Russell biography

P. Craig Russell is an American comic book writer, artist, and illustrator known for his work in fantasy and adaptation. He began his professional comics career in 1972, working for Marvel Comics. Russell gained recognition for his collaborations with writer Roy Thomas on Killraven in the series Amazing Adventures. He is also noted for his adaptations of operas and classic literature into graphic novel form, including works such as The Ring of the Nibelung, Salome, and The Magic Flute.

Russell has worked with several major publishers, including Marvel, DC Comics, and Dark Horse. He has illustrated stories for Neil Gaiman’s The Sandman series and adapted Gaiman’s Coraline and The Graveyard Book into graphic novels. His adaptation of The Graveyard Book was published in two volumes by HarperCollins in 2014.

Throughout his career, Russell has received multiple industry awards, including the Eisner Award. In 2015, he won the Eisner Award for Best Adaptation from Another Medium for The Graveyard Book Graphic Novel.
