Oliver Jeffers biography

Oliver Jeffers is a visual artist and author from Belfast, Northern Ireland. He works across illustration, painting, collage and sculpture, and creates picture books as both writer and illustrator. His debut picture book was How to Catch a Star, and his later picture books include Lost and Found, The Incredible Book Eating Boy, The Way Back Home, Here We Are and What We’ll Build.

Lost and Found won the Nestlé Children’s Book Prize Gold Award. The Incredible Book Eating Boy won the Irish Picture Book of the Year. The Way Back Home was shortlisted for the Kate Greenaway Medal, and the animated film of Lost and Found won the BAFTA for Best Animation in 2009.

Jeffers illustrated The Day the Crayons Quit and The Day the Crayons Came Home, both written by Drew Daywalt. He co-created A Child of Books with Sam Winston; its hardback edition was published by Candlewick on 6 September 2016, and the paperback edition was published on 15 September 2021.

Jeffers has also illustrated fiction by John Boyne. His illustrations appear in the 10th Anniversary Collector’s Edition of The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas, published by Doubleday Childrens on 6 October 2016, and he illustrated The Terrible Thing That Happened to Barnaby Brocket, published in paperback on 5 April 2018.
