Nora Krug is a German-American author and illustrator known for her work in graphic memoir and visual storytelling. She studied at the University of the Arts in Berlin and later earned a master’s degree from the Royal College of Art in London. Krug’s work often explores themes of history, memory, and identity, drawing on her background and personal experiences.
Her graphic memoir Belonging: A German Reckons with History and Home was published in 2018. The book combines illustration, archival material, and handwritten text to examine her family’s history during the Second World War. Belonging has been recognized for its innovative approach to nonfiction and has received several awards, including the National Book Critics Circle Award for Autobiography in 2018.
In addition to her books, Krug’s illustrations and comics have appeared in publications such as The New York Times, The Guardian, and Le Monde diplomatique. She has also contributed to anthologies and has taught illustration at Parsons School of Design in New York.
Krug’s work has been exhibited internationally, and she continues to engage with topics related to history and cultural identity through her art and writing. A notable milestone in her career is the publication of Belonging: A German Reckons with History and Home in 2018.
