Nick Bruel biography

Nick Bruel is an American author and illustrator widely recognized for the Bad Kitty series of children’s books. He published his first picture book, Boing!, in 2004. The following year, he released Bad Kitty, introducing readers to the chaotic adventures of a mischievous cat. The original Bad Kitty picture book used the alphabet as a storytelling device and became the foundation for a successful franchise.

The Bad Kitty series has since expanded to include chapter books and graphic novels, such as Bad Kitty Gets a Bath (2008), Bad Kitty for President (2012), and Bad Kitty: Supercat (2022). The series is known for its humor, accessible language, and engaging illustrations. Several titles have appeared on the New York Times bestseller lists and have won awards, including the Buckaroo Book Award and the Volunteer State Book Award for Grades K–3.

In addition to the Bad Kitty books, Bruel has authored and illustrated other works, such as Who Is Melvin Bubble? (2006), Little Red Bird (2008), and A Wonderful Year (2015). He has also written a guide for young creators, Bad Kitty Makes Comics . . . and You Can Too! (2015).

Before his career as a full-time author and illustrator, Bruel worked as a bookseller in New York City, which contributed to his understanding of children’s literature. In recent years, the Bad Kitty series has continued to expand, with new titles including Bad Kitty: Party Animal and Bad Kitty Goes to the Beach announced for release.
