Recommended reading books for elementary, middle & high school students
Natasha Yim is a children’s author and playwright known for her picture books and contributions to children’s literature. She was born in Malaysia and grew up in several countries, including Singapore and Hong Kong. Yim later moved to the United States, where she pursued her interest in writing and storytelling.
Yim’s debut picture book, Otto’s Rainy Day, was published by Charlesbridge in 2000. She has since written several other picture books, many of which draw on her multicultural background and explore themes of family, identity, and cultural heritage. Her works include Goldy Luck and the Three Pandas (Charlesbridge, 2014), a retelling of the classic fairy tale with a Chinese New Year setting, and The Rock Maiden (Wisdom Tales, 2017), inspired by a Chinese folk tale.
In addition to her books, Yim has written for children’s magazines such as Highlights for Children and Faces. She is also a playwright, with plays produced in venues in California. Yim is a member of the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators (SCBWI) and has participated in school visits and literary events to promote reading and cultural understanding among young audiences.
Her picture book Luna’s Yum Yum Dim Sum was published by Charlesbridge in 2020 as part of the Storytelling Math series.
