Mem Fox biography

Mem Fox is an Australian author known for her contributions to children’s literature. She was born in Melbourne and spent part of her childhood in Africa. Fox studied drama at university and later became a teacher and literacy educator. Her first picture book, Possum Magic, was published by Omnibus Books in 1983. The book, illustrated by Julie Vivas, has become a well-known title in Australian children’s literature.

Fox has written numerous picture books, including Time for Bed, Where Is the Green Sheep?, and Whoever You Are. Her works often explore themes of family, belonging, and cultural diversity. In addition to her writing, Fox has worked as a literacy consultant and has spoken internationally about the importance of reading aloud to children.

Mem Fox’s book Where Is the Green Sheep?, illustrated by Judy Horacek, was published by Houghton Mifflin Harcourt in 2004.
