Melissa Albert is an American author of young adult fiction, best known for her debut novel The Hazel Wood, published in 2018. The book became a New York Times bestseller and received critical acclaim for its dark, contemporary fairy tale style. Albert continued the story with the sequel The Night Country and a companion collection, Tales from the Hinterland.
Albert grew up in Illinois, attended the University of Iowa, and earned a journalism degree from Columbia College Chicago. Before becoming a full-time author, she worked as a journalist and served as the founding editor of the Barnes & Noble Teen Blog, where she covered books for young readers.
Her additional novels include Our Crooked Hearts and The Bad Ones. Albert’s books have been translated into multiple languages and have appeared on best-of-the-year lists from publications such as Kirkus Reviews and Publishers Weekly.
