Megan McDonald biography

Megan McDonald is an American author best known for the Judy Moody series for children. She grew up in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and was the youngest of five sisters. McDonald received a Bachelor of Arts in English from Oberlin College and a Master of Library Science from the University of Pittsburgh. Before becoming a full-time writer, she worked as a children’s librarian.

McDonald’s first book, Is This a House for Hermit Crab?, was published in 1990. The Judy Moody series, launched in 2000, follows the adventures of a spirited third grader and has become widely popular with young readers. The series includes more than a dozen titles and has been translated into multiple languages. The spin-off Stink series, featuring Judy’s younger brother, began in 2005.

In addition to the Judy Moody and Stink books, McDonald has written stand-alone novels, picture books, and stories for American Girl’s Julie Albright character. Her work has received honors including the Judy Blume Contemporary Fiction Award and the Carolyn W. Field Award. The film adaptation Judy Moody and the Not Bummer Summer was released in 2011.
