Matthew Wilson is an American comics colorist whose work appears widely in teen- and all-ages–friendly graphic fiction. Since the early 2000s he has colored series across major publishers, building a reputation for clear storytelling, careful palette control, and collaboration with writers and artists on character-driven books for young readers and crossover audiences.
Wilson’s credits include Image Comics’ Paper Girls with Brian K. Vaughan and Cliff Chiang and The Wicked + The Divine with Kieron Gillen and Jamie McKelvie. For Marvel, he has colored titles read by many teens in schools and libraries, among them Runaways, Young Avengers, Daredevil, The Mighty Thor, and Black Widow. He has also worked on DC series such as Wonder Woman. Publisher and industry records recognize his contributions with multiple Eisner Awards for coloring.
Trained in sequential art, Wilson approaches color as a narrative tool—setting mood, signaling time and place, and supporting readability from panel to panel. His collaborations with artists including Cliff Chiang, Jamie McKelvie, Chris Samnee, and others reflect a consistent emphasis on harmonizing palette with line work to guide younger and teen readers through complex scenes without confusion.
In addition to ongoing series work, Wilson’s backlist includes collected editions commonly used in classroom and library settings. His professional focus remains on accessible, high-impact color that serves story and character across contemporary children’s and young adult comics.
