Matt de la Peña is an American author known for his work in children’s and young adult literature. He holds a Master of Fine Arts in creative writing from San Diego State University. De la Peña has written several novels for young readers, as well as picture books. His debut novel, Ball Don’t Lie, was published by Delacorte Press in 2005. He has also written Mexican WhiteBoy, We Were Here, I Will Save You, The Living, and The Hunted.
In addition to novels, de la Peña has authored picture books, including Last Stop on Market Street, illustrated by Christian Robinson. This book received the Newbery Medal in 2016. De la Peña has contributed to anthologies and has taught creative writing at various institutions. His work often explores themes of identity, family, and community.
In 2016, Last Stop on Market Street was awarded the Newbery Medal by the American Library Association.
