Marie Dorléans Biography

Marie Dorléans is a French author and illustrator specializing in children’s literature. She graduated in 2010 from the School of Decorative Arts in Strasbourg, France, where she studied art and art history. Since then, she has worked as a children’s book illustrator and author, creating works that have garnered international recognition.

Her debut picture book, L’invité (2011), marked the beginning of a prolific career. Dorléans has since published numerous titles, including Nous avons rendez-vous (2018), translated into English as The Night Walk. This book received the Prix Landerneau in the best children’s book category and was selected as one of the New York Times/New York Public Library Best Illustrated Children’s Books of 2021.

Other notable works include Herbes folles (2022), which explores themes of nature and order through the story of a meticulously maintained garden that becomes overgrown. The book has been translated into German as Wilde Blätter (2024). Dorléans’s illustrations are known for their atmospheric quality and have been featured in various publications and exhibitions.
