Lucy.Ruth Cummins biography

Lucy Ruth Cummins is an author, illustrator and art director of children’s books. Her author-illustrator picture books include A Hungry Lion, or A Dwindling Assortment of Animals, Stumpkin, Vampenguin, Our Pool and Dalmartian: A Mars Rover’s Story. She illustrated Truman and Sylvie, both written by Jean Reidy; Truman was named a New York Times Best Children’s Book of 2019.

A Hungry Lion, or A Dwindling Assortment of Animals was published by Atheneum Books for Young Readers on 15 March 2016. Our Pool was published by Atheneum Books for Young Readers on 13 June 2023, with Cummins as both author and illustrator; it is a 48-page picture book for ages 4 to 8 and grades P to 3. Our Pool received a Charlotte Zolotow Highly Commended distinction and was named an ALA/ALSC Notable Children’s Book.

Dalmartian: A Mars Rover’s Story was published by Atheneum Books for Young Readers on 7 May 2024, with Cummins as both author and illustrator. In the Sleepy Sheepy series, Cummins writes the stories and Pete Oswald illustrates them; Sleepy Sheepy was published by Flamingo Books, followed by Sleepy Sheepy and the Sheepover on 27 February 2024 and Creepy Sheepy on 15 July 2025.
